Kekova and Simena- where Pirates roamed

Regretfully, I did not take photos here, but Kekova Island and the facing Simena town were definitely the most interesting places that we stopped at. In addition to the usual beautiful landscape, the place is also rich in history. While Kekova Island is a sunken city that collapsed in the 2nd century AD, the small town of Simena is accessible only by water and built within a large necropolis. Sarcophagi decorate the mountainside and the nearby coast while Lycian rock tombs adorn the cliffs. In the 14th century, a lovely Byzantine fortress was built on the top of the town to fight the pirates living on Kekova.

The tip of a small necropolis peeking from the water.
